Estimate labor from a stated rate
Use labor cost = solid fence length × labor rate per ft. The chargeable length excludes gate openings in this model. For example, 100 ft at a user-entered $20 per ft equals $2,000 for installation labor. The example rate is arithmetic only, not a market benchmark.
This mode calculates installation labor only. For removal, materials, delivery and other project charges, use the wood fence cost calculator. Use a dated, itemized contractor proposal for your rate. Worker wages are not contractor billing rates.
Example: a proposal with a gate
A 100 ft run that includes a 4 ft gate opening contains 96 ft of solid fence. At an illustrative $20 per ft, the labor result is $1,920. Gate installation is excluded from this multiplication. If your contractor charges for the entire run or bundles gate work into a total, agree on the scope before comparing that bid with this result.
Compare like with like
Ask whether a bid covers layout, old fence removal, gate installation, difficult access, slopes, concrete, disposal, cleanup, and warranty. A rate per foot may exclude some of these items or use a different measured length.
Not a local quote
Labor can vary with site access, grade, soil, fence details, and local requirements. This tool does not know those conditions. Use it to organize a comparison and request written, itemized estimates from qualified local contractors.
